Glass is considered to be the safest container to drink. There 3 kinds of glass material that can be distinguished.
Soda-lime glass
The soda-lime glass is made of Silica and sodium oxide, calcium oxide, after heated by over 1000 degrees Celsius, it will be transparent substance after cool down. But the temperature difference that soda-lime glass can bear is 60 degrees Celsius. It does not mean it can not hold a hot drink. If you warm it slowly before you pour a hot drink in winter, then it is ok. If the anneal of the glass can be last for a proper time, then it will be stronger.

Tempered glass
Same material with soda-lime glass, but it goes through a process after annealing. Put the glassware in a cold area then go into a hot area in a short time, then one who is as complete as before can be the winner, it becomes tempered. So it can withstand the heat and cold at the same time. But it is not oven-safe as well.

Borosilicate glass
It is an inorganic mineral as well but added boric oxide which will help to change the physical characteristics of the normal soda-lime glass, then it became heat resistant. There is middle and high borosilicate glassware as well. The middle is microwave safe not oven-safe, but high borosilicate is suitable for both.
